Hair Extensions After Care Guide
We strongly encourage our customers to follow these aftercare guidelines in order to keep your natural hair and extensions in the best condition possible throughout their lifespan.
Please wait at least 48-72 hours before wetting your hair after application. If you wish to continue wearing your extensions, it is important to keep up with maintenance, this will ensure your extensions don’t become visible and your hair stays healthy. Maintenance is required every 4-6 weeks by your hair extension professional and/or must be removed by a trained professional within 10 weeks of application.
Brushing:
Brush your hair at least 3 times a day using a soft bristle brush.
Divide your hair into two sections over your shoulders to make it easier.
Hold the base of your hair and start by brushing the ends and work your way up to the roots.
Washing your hair: Limit washing your hair to no more than 2 – 3 times a week.
Always brush and detangle your hair before washing.
Use a gentle shampoo & conditioner that is free of sulphates and parabens.
For the best results in aftercare, we recommend using the following products as part of your aftercare routine. MUK Ultra Soft Hair Care Range:
Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave in Conditioner, 1 Minute Treatment, MUK Thermal Protector and White Sands Orchid Oil
DO NOT USE ANY PRODUCTS CONTAINING PROTEIN, KERATIN or BIOTIN ON YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS AS AS THESE INGREDIENTS CAN CAUSE IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE. Please read ingredients and labels carefully.
Shampooing: Split your hair into 2 sections over your shoulders.
Use your fingers to gently massage the shampoo into your scalp, mid strands & ends. Rinse out and repeat.
Conditioning: Use a generous amount of conditioner, gently massage it into your hair focusing on your mid lengths & ends. (Avoid applying conditioner to the roots as this may cause slipping)
Towel dry gently using blotting and squeezing actions & blow dry your hair as soon as possible.
Treatments: Hair extensions need a lot of moisture as they do not receive the natural oils that our hair does from our scalp. If your extensions are feeling dry, apply a mask or treatment to boost their moisture and keep them feeling silky soft. Please remember to use salon quality products that are free of sulphates and parabens. Do not use keratin or protein-based products.
Blow drying and styling:
Heat Irons, hair dryers and curling tongs can be used on your hair extensions at no more than 180 degrees C. Please be aware that too much heat styling can cause breakage and split ends; therefore, it is recommended to use a heat protecting/thermo product where possible to prolong the life of your extensions. Once styled, apply a Moroccan or argan oil to the mid lengths and ends, This will help seal any dry or split ends.
Sleeping with hair extensions:
Wear your hair in a loose braid or low pony when sleeping to prevent your hair from tangling and pulling while you sleep. Never sleep with your hair wet or damp! Excess moisture in the hair can cause bacteria/mould to build up in the wefts & the bonds and glue to break down, so if you shower at night please thoroughly dry your hair with a blow dryer on low-medium heat.
Swimming:
Avoid swimming in chlorine or salt water. These chemicals can cause dryness, discolouration and matting. If swimming is necessary, wear you hair in a loose braid, use a leave in conditioner on the braid to create a barrier. After swimming rinse your hair immediately. Shampoo your hair and use a treatment as soon as possible to maintain the hairs hydration.
PLEASE DO NOT BLEACH, PERM OR CHEMICALLY STRAIGHTEN SOPHIA HAIR EXTENSIONS
